A good hike on a hot and humid summer day requires preferably a body of water near by and lots of shade. Mason’s Neck supplies both and despite the temperatures soaring, we thoroughly enjoyed it!
Just 20 miles away from Washington, DC, this state park located in Southern Fairfax county offers a number of family-friendly hiking trails and woods, a river and wetlands to admire and study. With the views of Potomac river and abundant vegetation and wild life – it worked perfectly for us.
On the way back home, we made a stop at a picturesque little town of Occoquan and had some mean ice cream! The town has apparently also gotten famous as the Pokemon Go play field, if you are into the game….Happy Monday!
