Open any newspaper, turn on TV and likely you will hear or read a story about migration. Unfortunately, these days, mostly forced migration.
Thousands of women, men and children are out there, fleeing war and oppression, clutching few possessions as they venture down unknown, often dangerous and uncertain path in search of safety and better life.
The exhibit at the George Washington University museum in collaboration with the DC Textile museum featured artists-migrants who used textiles to tell their stories and raise awareness of the issue. Art on display was heart wrenching, inspiring and stunning.
From quilts, to textiles, sculptures and other art, artists were using many forms to tell their compelling stories.
